The idea of Courage Capes Foundation came after a Girl Scout community service event that was held by my troop and my personal family experiences.
The community service event consist of making superhero capes for children that were in the Pediatric Unit in our local hospital. I fell in love with the idea and took it to the next level and Courage Capes Foundation was established December 2016 to help and put a smile on children's faces.
To date we have delivered 200 Courage Cape Boxes to Saint Peter's Children Hospital, Ronald McDonald House in NJ and NC, and by mail.
This is my cousin, her name was Damaris. She passed February 19, 2007 at 26 years old. Damaris was diagnosed with melanoma in her teens and fought a hard battle undergoing many different cancer treatments.
She was an inspiration to all of us, Damaris used to make jewelry to raise money for Relay for Life and when she passed she donated her blood for cancer research.
Knowing the struggles she faced while in the hospital has been an inspiration for me to want to try and put a smile on other people's faces going through the same thing.
